Getting the bangle size right

Bangle sizes run on the traditional Indian scale — 2-4, 2-6, 2-8 and so on — where the number describes the bangle's diameter in inches (2-4 is 2⁴⁄₁₆, i.e. 2.25 inches). Most adult women fall between 2-4 and 2-8, but the honest answer is that the scale only gets you close: the right size depends on the width of the palm at its widest fold, and a broad kada fits differently from a thin valayal of the same number.

That is why we size bangles at the counter. Visit once with ten minutes to spare and we will measure you properly; after that, you can order or reserve designs over WhatsApp with confidence in the fit.

Kada, valayal and the bridal stack

  • Valayal (thin bangles) are bought in pairs or sets of four and six, and worn as a stack. Matching them to an existing set is common — bring one and we will match the tone and pattern as closely as the design allows.
  • Kadas are broad, single statement pieces — engraved, meenakari or stone-set. One kada flanked by thin valayals is the classic festive arrangement.
  • Bridal kemp sets pair red-and-green stone bangles with the temple haram and jhumkas so the whole set reads as one — see the antique & temple collection for the matching pieces.

How bangle weight works

A thin machine-made valayal can start around 4–6 grams, handmade engraved bangles typically run 8–15 grams each, and broad kadas 20 grams and above. Because bangles are usually bought in pairs or sets, the gold weight adds up faster than any other category — a set of six everyday bangles can quietly outweigh a bridal haram. If you are building a set, the purchase planner converts your budget into grams at today's rate, and the gold plan spreads the buying across months.

Worth knowing before you buy

Hallmarking: every bangle we sell carries the BIS 916 hallmark — on bangles it is usually stamped on the inner face. Old bangles: reshaping and exchanging old valayals against a new set is one of the most common jobs we do; we test the old gold in front of you. Daily-wear advice: for bangles worn round the clock, choose solid over hollow — hollow bangles weigh and cost less but dent with kitchen work.
