Jhumka, chandbali or stud — choosing the shape
Gold earrings divide into three families, and the right choice is mostly about how and where they will be worn.
- Studs sit flat on the ear — the everyday workhorse. Floral, star and stone-set studs in our gallery are the pieces customers wear daily for years, so we pay attention to post strength and comfortable backs.
- Jhumkas — the bell-shaped drop — are the signature South Indian earring. Small jhumkas move with daily wear; full bridal jhumkas with kemp stones anchor a wedding look. The antique Lakshmi and peacock jhumkas here pair with temple harams as a set — see the antique collection.
- Chandbalis — crescent-shaped drops with bead fringes — carry festive weight without the fullness of a jhumka, and suit both sarees and lehengas.
A practical weight guide
As a rule of thumb from the counter: daily-wear studs usually run 2–4 grams a pair, small jhumkas and drops 4–8 grams, and full-size bridal or temple jhumkas 8–16 grams and above, depending on how solid the bell is made. Two earrings of identical size can differ meaningfully in weight — openwork and lattice designs wear big while weighing light, which is how a festive look stays affordable. We always quote the exact weight, making charges and today's rate before you decide; the making charges guide explains how the maths works.
Buying earrings for children
For babies and young children we recommend small, snug studs with screw-backs and rounded edges — nothing that dangles. Bring the child to the showroom; fit matters more than design at that age, and our staff will check the post length against the ear.
Common questions
Are the stones priced as gold? No. Kemp, cubic zirconia and enamel work are itemised separately from the gold weight on the bill, so you can see exactly what the gold portion is.
Can I convert old earrings into a new design? Yes — old gold exchange against new pieces is routine. Bring the old pair; we test purity in front of you and set its value off the new piece.
Do you have matching sets? Many necklaces and harams in the necklace collection have companion earrings. WhatsApp us the design you like and we will show you what pairs with it.
